Interfaith fire investigation in hands of prosecutor

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - New developments in the deadly apartment fire that took the lives of three young children.

The case is now in the hands of the county prosecutor. The chief assistant prosecutor says because of the seriousness of the case, they'll take their time looking through the entire report.

Kalamazoo Public Safety officials handed over their investigation Thursday.

The chief assistant prosecutor tells Newschannel 3 they plan to research the law as much as possible before they make a final decision, which we should not expect to come quick.

Investigators say the fire started on the first floor of the Interfaith Apartments and ripped through the second floor where four children were still inside.

3-year-old twins Tevin and Te'niya Williams and 1-year-old Ty'onna Henderson were killed. Their 4-year-old sister survived.

Meanwhile, Jonetta Woods, mother of the three children left unsupervised before the fire broke out is headed to trial next month for custody of her only surviving child.

She lost custody shortly after the fire.

The jury will also decide next month if Woods was neglectful when she left her four children unsupervised.
