EPA continues cleanup of Portage Creek

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Environmental Protection Agency is back to work, cleaning up contamination in Kalamazoo's Portage Creek.

The project started in September of 2011, and is part of a larger superfund cleanup that includes the Kalamazoo River.

The EPA will isolate a part of the creek and redirect water around the area, where it will then take that water out and treat it.

The contaminated soil will also be removed and replaced.

Starting Monday through May 17th, the Dutton Street bridge, between Portage and Jasper Streets will be closed.
