17-year-old in serious condition after rollover

BLOOMINGDALE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A 17-year-old is in serious condition at Bronson Hospital, after a rollover crash in Bloomingdale Township.

It happened around 3:00 p.m. Thursday.

Van Buren County Deputies say Shawn Steinman was speeding down 24th Street on the way home from school with a friend, when he lost control and slammed into a tree.

Deputies say Steinman was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the car.

His passenger, 17-year-old Jamie Summerville, was belted, and managed to crawl out of the car to get help.

Both teens are from Gobles High School.

The school will have extra staff on-hand Friday to support fellow students in dealing with the incident.
