App aims to help vets find work
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The unemployment rate of returning vets is 9.4 percent. That's two points higher than the national average.
It's even worse for young vets, where more than a third can't find work.
The new app is the brainchild of webinfused.com. The Battle Creek company says it is dedicated to creating social networking web applications that are meant to stimulate economic growth, and the veterans employment solution is part of that goal.
David Cook has developed a website and smart phone app to give these men and women tools to better sell themselves to potential employers.
He says one thing he hopes to teach them is how to define their personal skills and present those to businesses.
Another huge factor is cutting down the risk for that employer.
"When we talk about reducing risk, what we are trying to do is increase the odds of that employer seeing that you are going to be successful, and the way to do that is extending effort. So if you take the time to volunteer, if you take the time to work and develop a business Facebook page that has your history, if you put goals in place for where you're headed you reduce your risk and the less risk you have, the more employable you are," said Dave Cook, Chief Tech Officer at webinfused.com.
This project has been three years in the making. Now David is currently looking for veterans to work with.
