Police Investigate Racial Intimidation

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Grand Haven school district is cooperating with law enforcement agencies after receiving reports of racial intimidation.

Superintendent Keith Konarska, told Newschannel 3 over the phone that there have been five suspected cases of racial intimidation.

So far, three of those incidents have been confirmed.

There have been reports of hate language, racial slurs, and Konarska said one student was caught wearing a hat with the letters KKK written on it.

"The incidents are tremendously concerning, and unacceptable. We're taking them very seriously," Konarska said. The district is cooperating with authorities to rectify the situation.

"There's never been an incident, to this degree, in the district before," Konarska explained.

Konarska said the students in question are being disciplined, but he was unable to release details into their punishment.

The names and ages of the students have not been released. The investigation is ongoing.
