Douglass neighborhood meets to discuss water booster pump issue
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Several people in Kalamazoo's Douglass neighborhood say a loud pump station is disrupting their community, and Wednesday night, they voiced their concerns to city leaders.
They held a neighborhood meeting at the Kalamazoo Public Safety Station from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Residents say the noise and vibrations from the water booster pump station are getting too hard to deal with.
Some even say it's affecting their health, as it makes it too difficult to sleep.
"I've been there for 22 years, and it's gotten bad in the last 5 or 6, because the pump station is servicing a larger area instead of running intermittently," said resident Arlene Larson. "They run all the time. So I don't get a break, and same with my neighbors."
City leaders are planning to do evening studies to see if the pump is making the noise or if it's due to improper acoustics.
After they determine the source, they will decide how to rectify the situation.
