Kzoo leaders to meet Friday to discuss minimum wage
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Community leaders in Kalamazoo will gather Friday hoping to build support for raising the minimum wage in Michigan.
It comes the day after fast food workers around the country are protesting to double their hourly pay.
If it were to pass in Michigan, House Bill 4554 would increase the minimum wage in Michigan by increments, up to $10 per hour by 2016.
The legislation also ties the minimum wage to the consumer price index, so that it's constantly adjusted for inflation.
City Commissioners and local church leaders will talk about the proposal at a rally on Friday at noon, on the steps of St. Joseph Catholic Church, on Lake Street in Kalamazoo.
