New playground being built in Battle Creek
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Preschoolers in Battle Creek will soon have a brand new place to play, thanks to Lowe's Heroes.
More than 50 volunteers from Lowes will be hard at work at SNAP Preschool over the next few days.
They are transforming the playground there because, as of right now, it's just a grassy backyard with uneven ground.
The volunteers started off Tuesday cleaning up the yard.
As the week goes on, they plan to level the ground, lay down sand and build a big shed to house the preschools outdoor toys.
This is mainly for lower income kids so maybe some of those kids don't have the opportunity to be outside, to enjoy the fresh air, to be able to just be with their friends and play, says Lowes Heroes volunteer Sherri Leeper. To be able to give that back to the community and to these kids is something I think is very, very important.
The Lowe's Heroes team chooses one big project to work on in the community each year.
They hope the community will pick up a shovel and join them.
The more close knit the community is, the happier the community is, Leeper adds. The smiles on the kids faces is going to be amazing.
Lowe's Heroes will be out at SNAP Preschool in Battle Creek again on Wednesday and Thursday.
Anyone is welcome to volunteer with them.
