Van recovered, search for theif continues following Thurs. morning crime spree
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Police are searching for a thief after a wild crime spree in Kalamazoo County.
We've just learned that police have recovered a stolen van they were looking for in connection with the crimes.
It's a story Newschannel 3 was the first to break on Thursday morning.
Kalamazoo Police say that just before 2:00 a.m., thieves broke into an apartment on Kickapoo Court, near the WMU campus, and took off with three vehicles.
Portage officers tracked down one of the stolen cars after a short chase and crash.
Police say the driver ran and so did three others, including a 13-year-old girl and a 15-year-old girl.
The girls, and 17-year-old Darqareion Mills of Kalamazoo, were caught within minutes.
Mills was formally charged Thursday with two felony resisting and obstructing charges.
Newschannel 3 spoke with two of the victims, who did not want to be identified, but say they're still in shock.
Police say the car involved in the crash was totaled.
The second car was found at Linden Grove Middle School in Kalamazoo.
The third vehicle police were searching for--a Pontiac Montana van--has now been recovered as well.
