Playground built to honor victim of Sandy Hook
CONNECTICUT (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Firefighters and volunteers spent Saturday building a playground in honor of Jessica Rekos, one of the children killed in the Sandy Hook school shooting.
It's part of the New Jersey Firefighter's Organization "The Sandy Ground: Where Angels Play."
They are building 26 playgrounds, one for each victim.
This is the fourth Connecticut playground.
Jessica's family also took part in the construction.
"Travis, the younger brother of Jessica, acts as the foreman here. He's four years old. Shane is involved as well. So, it's a really family -- we think -- a healing project, for the firefighters here -- just a blessing to be involved with it," said Bill Lavin of NJ Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Assoc.
Once completed, the playground will showcase Jessica's favorite colors and her love of horses, as well as orca whales.
