Filmmaker circling Michigan to spread peace
MICHIGAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A filmmaker from South Africa is cycling 1,300 miles around the border of Michigan spreading peace.
Ryan Davy's campaign called "My Mitten Mission" will last about 45 days.
He started in Canton and is riding clockwise around the state cycling up to 55 miles at a time.
We caught up with him late Monday night in Holland.
Davy says he enjoys stopping in every Michigan town along the way, talking to the locals and handing out flyers about his campaign.
He ultimately hopes to raise enough money to create a feature film that raises awareness about family peace.
We asked him why he chose Michigan.
"I shopped around with which state would be best to make the film in and Michigan came up best because it has a good tax incentive for the investors, it also is a very beautiful state, it has a lot of diverse locations and what I looked about it too is that it's the shape of a mitten so I built the campaign around the helping hand for family peace because the story involves a family that is torn about by a tragedy," said Davy.
Davy is about a week and a half in to his 45-day journey. He'll be heading north from Holland Tuesday.
