Group wants to send vets to Washington D.C.
PORTAGE, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A non-profit group in Portage wants to send a group of World War II veterans to Washington D.C. for a day, free of charge, and it needs your help.
The group wants to send the vets to the capitol's World War II Memorial as a thank you for serving our country.
The volunteers with Talons Out: Honor Flight tell us their goal is to fly as many as 25 to D.C.
"When they won the war they didn't have a big party, they kept working and came back to the states, back home, and went to work. So for us, giving them this honor, this last mission is really just an honor for us to give back to them," said Dan Moyle.
Talons Out has already received 25 veteran applications for the first Southwest Michigan Honor Flight, which is planned for October 26th.
It's expected to cost about $35,000.
Right now, the organization has raised about $20,000. on top of financial support, the group could also use volunteers, both to help with planning, and to accompany the veterans to d.c.
