Nate Hurwitz Miracle League Field opens in Rockford
ROCKFORD, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - What was once a mound of dirt is now a bright, green field of dreams, made specifically for children with special needs.
The Nate Hurwitz Miracle League Field hosted its first game on Saturday afternoon in Rockford.
The mission--every child deserves a chance to play baseball.
It started as a dream by a West Michigan man who wanted to see his son, who has a disability, play ball.
"For the first time ever, there are 40 kids that are going to play today, that get to put on their own jersey with their own names on the backs," said Tony Comden, President of the West Michigan Miracle League. "Never got that chance before today."
The field, which was all paid for by donations, cost about $550,000.
The West Michigan Miracle League is also raising money to build a disability accessible playground next to the field.
