Vehicle crashes after police chase, man injured
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Public safety officers in Kalamazoo say a man has been seriously injured after the driver of the vehicle he was in fled from police and crashed.
It started early Friday morning around 1:40 in the 1300 block of Ravine Road.
Officers say they were called to a business because someone there refused to leave. When officers arrived two vehicles left, one at a high rate of speed.
The speeding car almost hit the responding cruiser.
The officer attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver fled down Douglas.
The officer discontinued the chase. The fleeing vehicle eventually crashed into a utility pole in the 1100 block of Douglas. The female driver fled the scene on foot. A man and woman were left behind in the car.
The female who was still in the car was uninjured. The male was taken to the hospital with significant injuries.
Police tracked down the 19-year-old driver who fled. She was arrested for fleeing and eluding and operating while intoxicated.
The injured man is in critical condition in the hospital.
