MASON COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Court documents from a probable cause hearing have revealed new details in the shooting death of Michigan State Trooper Paul Butterfield.
Police say Trooper Butterfield was shot in the head while trying to pull a car over in Mason County earlier this month.
Butterfield was airlifted to the hospital, where he passed away during emergency surgery.
19-year-old Eric Knysz was officially charged with murder, along with several other felonies, in connection with the shooting. His pregnant wife Sara is being charged with being an accessory after the fact and stealing a car.
During a probable cause hearing, a detective with the Michigan State Police testified that Eric's mother Tammy Spofford was with the couple as they drove to steal another car on the night of the incident.
So far, Tammy Spofford has not been arrested in connection with the events that transpired on the night Butterfield was killed.
