Search for missing boy
BELDING, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Multiple-law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, have come together to find a missing 10-year-old boy.
Investigators say Devon Morrison was last seen Saturday afternoon in Ionia County, near his home in Belding, located off Harrison Street. Newschannel 3 is being told Devon was last seen near his home around 2:30 p.m. Saturday with his fishing pole, but he never came home Saturday night.
Shoes were found in the river about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, and Nelson says family members are "pretty sure" they belong to Devon. However, that is still under investigation.
The FBI and Belding police Chief Dale Nelson say they consider the disappearance suspicious and are treating it as possible crime. Dozens of volunteers searched Belding on Sunday, looking along the Flat River where Devon liked to fish. A Kent County dive team was called in to search the river with sonar, and a state police helicopter has conducted infrared imaging of the river and nearby railroad beds. Police also went door to door.
The search took a surprising turn Sunday evening, when detectives searched Devon's home, surrounding the home with crime scene tape. Detectives snapped photos inside the home and spoke to someone in an upstairs bedroom for a period of time. A K9 team also searched the outside of the home while detectives carried flashlights. Investigators have been speaking to Devon's grandmother, his mother, and her boyfriend. However, police say there are currently no suspects.
While crews searched the home, the community gathered for a vigil. Devon's mother attended the vigil and thanked everyone for supporting her family during this difficult time.
Devon was last seen wearing a red sweatshirt and black jeans. The community remains hopeful he will be found safe.
