Dash cam video released from BC officer drunk driving arrest
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Newschannel 3 has obtained dash cam video capturing the moment an off-duty Battle Creek Police officer was pulled over and arrested in Kalamazoo County for drinking and driving.
Officer Kevin Stansbery was arrested early Saturday morning in Portage.
Portage Police say they pulled him over on South Westnedge Avenue for speeding and a breath test showed his blood-alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit.
The officer makes an immediate u-turn to pull Stansbery over on the 6500 block of Westnedge.
She tells Stansbery the reason she pulled him over is because he was doing 48 mph in a 35 mph zone.
Stansbery tells the officer that he's on his way home to Battle Creek, where he reveals he is a city police officer.
Portage officers then helped her perform a sobriety test on the spot.
Video indicates Stansbery did have problems with his balance at times during the course of the test.
He was taken to the police station, and then the county jail, where we've been told by Portage Police he blew a .15.
He pleaded not guilty to the drunk driving charge in Kalamazoo County Court on Tuesday, and is due back in court on September 11.
Newschannel 3 spoke to Battle Creek Police Chief Jackie Hampton when the incident first broke over the weekend.
He said Stansbery is on immediate paid administrative leave, and the BCPD is conducting their own internal investigation.
This is the third drunk driving arrest the BCPD has experienced in just over a year.
We're expected to get more information on the arrest Wednesday afternoon.
