Hydrant flushing causing brown water in Kzoo homes
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A news alert if you live in Kalamazoo: Several viewers near the area of Gull and Sprinkle roads say they've had brown tap water.
Turns out, there is no cause for alarm. The city is just flushing hydrants right now. The public service department started flushing them last Sunday.
According to the city of Kalamazoo's website, flushing is necessary to get rid of deposits that form inside the water mains, which may cause the tap water to run brown for a while.
The city says the water is safe and will return to its normal color after a couple days. The next hydrants to be flushed are in the Stadium Drive area. They expect to wrap up this project Monday.
