Bill would require changing license plates every 10 years
LANSING, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Residents in Michigan might soon have to buy a new license plate every ten years according to a bill passed by the Michigan House.
The bill, approved Thursday, would bar the Department of State from renewing any plate that was at least a decade old starting in 2015.
The goal is to ensure that all license plates on the road are able to be read.
The law already requires legibility, but it's only enforced through police citations.
The bill will now go to the Senate for consideration.
