Victim in fatal I-94 car-pedestrian crash identified
PORTAGE, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Police sources have identified the victim in a car-pedestrian crash on I-94 that stopped up traffic for several hours overnight.
The man who was struck by westbound traffic and killed has been identified as 30-year-old Aaron Tobias.
Police say just before 11:00 p.m. Sunday, Portage Public Safety officers attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle on eastbound I-94.
Tobias, a Portage resident, stopped the vehicle next to the median barrier wall.
Officers say the driver fled on foot, jumped over the wall into the westbound lanes and was struck and killed.
The westbound lanes of I-94 were closed for approximately three hours and traffic was rerouted with the assistance of the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.
All lanes of I-94 re-opened in both directions just before 3:00 a.m. Monday.
