Suspect in Sturgis murder to face judge
CENTREVILLE, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A man being held in connection to a Sturgis murder is expected to face a judge Thursday on another charge.
David Locey was found shot to death inside his offices on M-66 early Wednesday morning.
Friends on Facebook and Twitter are remembering him as "caring," "giving" and a role model.
They say this murder has shaken their community.
A man by the name of Andy Brown is being held in the St. Joseph County Jail right now. He is expected to be arraigned Thursday on a "business related charge."
We have received information that the two men may have had business dealings, but investigators won't confirm anything solid at this time.
The St. Joseph County Sheriff also confirmed for us Brown is the primary suspect in the murder case.
Several sources tell us he was a former employee of David Locey who was recently fired.
The sheriff says brown was arrested shortly after the murder but is being held on that "business related charge" right now.
As for a possible motive, officials are being very tight lipped.
"At this time our investigators have done an excellent job today and we have some information that we hope to provide you guys with," said St. Joseph Co. Prosecutor John McDonough.
David Locey was very active in the Sturgis community and those who knew him tell us they are very shocked anyone would want to kill him.
"He was a really nice guy. He was industrious. He was busy all the time," said neighbor Beth Stevens.
The Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce released a statement following Locey's death. It says quote "The chamber has lost a great board member, but Sturgis has lost a great family man, great friend and great supporter of this community. We will miss you Dave more than you could have known. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and with his Locey CPA family."
Andy Brown is expected to be in court Thursday afternoon to be formally charged.
We will keep you updated on what those charges are.
