Money mismanagement claims at Hopkins Public Schools
HOPKINS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Hopkins Board of Education is responding after teachers told Newschannel 3 they are concerned about the district's financial future.
They tell us current Superintendent Chris Stephens has mismanaged money and taken focus away from providing a quality education for the students.
Teachers say the sacrifices they are making due to the budget issues are not being shared and claim their voices are not being heard.
But the board of education responded Thursday night saying quote: "It is only after contract negotiations began, that the union personally and publicly sought to discredit Superintendent Chris Stephens. This type of behavior is not reflective of our district and community values, where we teach our students to professionally and civilly work to resolve problems."
The board goes on to say that everyone must work together as other districts have done to tackle difficult financial issues.
