W. Mich. student produces new anti-bullying film
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A West Michigan student is taking her talents to the big screen.
She produced a powerful film that she's ready to premier during National Bullying Prevention Month.
The movie tackles the topic of bullying from the bystanders point of view.
Kayla McNeal, from Marcellus, started production on the film when she was a senior in high school.
She says bullying strikes a chord with her personally, after many years of being picked on.
She believes her story is one students will relate to, and hopes it will make a difference by urging people to stop bullying if they see it happening.
"Bullying is serious and it's harmful, not only to your reputation, but your psychological, your physical, everything," McNeal said. "It tears you apart."
The anti-bullying movie premiers Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at the Van Buren Technology Center.
It is open to the public.
McNeal hopes other schools in West Michigan will pick up the film to include in their anti-bullying curriculums.
