Students call on Rep. Upton for change on immigration
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Students are calling on Congressman Fred Upton for change.
On Friday, about 20 of them showed up to his Kalamazoo Office, asking him to co-sponsor an immigration reform bill, or to ask Speaker John Boehner for a vote on a path to citizenship.
The group says they want Upton's support for working with Congressional leaders to protect immigrant families, but are not seeing any movement yet.
"We will do whatever we have to do to get an answer," said one protestor, student Roxanna Menchaca. "Since this is very personal not just for me, but several of the students that are here, and for millions of families across the country."
On Friday, Lynn Turner from Congressman Upton's office responded, saying, "Fred continues to work toward a bipartisan bill to address the problems of our badly broken immigration system. His goal is to create a measure or measures that can pass in both the House and Senate, and be signed into law by the President."
