Paw Paw man jailed for attempted murder in beating of estranged girlfriend
PAW PAW, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A 22-year-old Paw Paw man is facing charges of assault with intent to murder and attempted murder after Van Buren County Sheriff's Deputies broke up an assault in progress Thursday morning.
Deputies were dispatched to a home in the 60000 block of County Road 665 in Paw Paw on a report of an assault in progress.
A witness indicated that a man was chasing a female whose face was covered with blood, and that it appeared the man grabbed the female by the arm and forced her back into the house.
When deputies arrived, the woman ran out from the house with the male in pursuit.
Upon investigation, officers learned the female, a mother of three, had returned to the home for clothing and allegedly found her estranged boyfriend Reeves, who is also the father of the children, lying in wait.
Depities said the assault was "immediate and vicious."
The man, identified as 22-year-old Kane Reeves, reportedly told deputies that he believed the victim was having an affair with a close friend.
The victim says during the attack, Reeves told her she was going to die, and reminding her that he forewarned what would happen if she ever left.
The victim was transported to Bronson Lakeview where she was treated for her injuries.
Deputies say she will have to undergo facial reconstructive surgery for her injuries.
Reeves was lodged in the Van Buren County Jail, but not before being treated for a self-inflicted head wound sustained by repeatedly slamming his face into the plexiglass divider while in police custody.
The investigation is still ongoing.
