UPDATED: Head-on collision in Richland closes road
RICHLAND, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - An erratic driver wound up running people off the road in Kalamazoo County, and driving in the wrong lane Friday.
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Department says they started receiving calls around 1:00 p.m. about the driver.
Deputies say the wild driving ended with a deadly crash on North 32nd Street in Richland.
The so-called erratic driver victim was identified by family as 56-year-old Ezell Gilland.
Family believes that Gilland suffered a medical condition, as he was diabetic.
Gilland's son says there was a similar incident with his father driving erratically around 5 years ago, but no one was hurt.
Gilland was driving a black Chrysler Pacifica when he got into a fender bender on 33rd Street & G Avenue, and took off, not coming to a stop for around 3 miles.
The drive came to a deadly halt on North 32nd Street, where Gilland struck a Dodge Charger driven by a man in his 50's.
That victim was transported to Borgess Hospital, where he underwent surgery.
We have no update on his condition at this time.
