Compounding center reaches settlement over meningitis outbreak

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The New England Compounding Center has reached a settlement with victims of a major meningitis outbreak.

Nearly 700-people in 20 states were sickened and more than 60-deaths were reported.

Michigan was one of the hardest hit states with 19 deaths.

Attorneys involved with the matter say the $100-million fund will compensate the victims and pay off creditors.

The Centers for Disease Control and prevention says the outbreak was linked to tainted steroid injections from the Massachusetts-based center.

The settlement is now awaiting a judge's approval.
