Preparations for New Year's Fest underway in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - New Year's Fest preparations are fast underway in Kalamazoo.

The event started at 5:30 p.m., with more than 30 performers from comedians to magicians, and downtown Kalamazoo is expected to be packed with great entertainment.

Crews were in Bronson Park earlier in the day, putting up party tents.

More than 500 volunteers and sponsors make the annual celebration possible.

The performing arts festival brings the community together to celebrate cultural arts and, of course, the new year.

14 venues surrounding Bronson Park will host the events.

Tribute bands for U2, Journey, and Simon & Garfunkel are also among the entertainment.

For the kids, there's Lego City, a time to get an autograph from a Disney Princess, and arts and crafts.

Buttons are still being sold in Bronson Park for $10.

Of course, the ball will drop at midnight to usher in 2014.
