WMU cranks down thermostats for $140K savings

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Western Michigan University is making some big savings this winter break.

Over the 8-day recess, WMU dialed back temperatures in the buildings, totaling more than $140,000 in energy savings.

Using the university's advanced energy management system, more than 3,000 thermostats around campus were turned down to 55 degrees on December 24 with just a single click of a mouse.

Staff and students are set to return Thursday, with thermostats set back in the normal mode.
