Due date change for ACA customers if you buy before Monday

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - If you bought health insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act, there's still some time to pay.

The industry says customers who buy a plan by this Monday, December 23, will have until January 10 to pay the first month's premium.

The previous deadline was December 31.

A health-insurance trade group says the extension is because of problems that still exist with federal and state sign-up systems.

Pushing the deadline back also reduces the risk of interruptions in coverage due to technical problems.

For the coverage to take effect, consumers will have to pay the first premium on time.
