Post Office going all out to help you have a Merry Christmas

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Both at the front counter and out on the streets, the post office is going all out for your Merry Christmas.

"It kind of makes you believe in Santa Claus, the parcel volume is really exploding that's what makes it hard," says mail carrier Nate Edwards.

Edwards says he knows he has a lot of people depending on him to deliver by Wednesday. His truck is loaded up with a lot more boxes than usual and where carriers are supposed to finish their routes by five, most are now staying much later.

"It gets dark at 5:15 and there's pressure to get back obviously at 5:30 but it gets harder with all the boxes, but it's a good thing," says Edwards.

The post office had its biggest day of the year for people mailing things on Monday, now those shipments are starting to arrive at their destinations.  And that has things hopping back at the post offices and sorting centers.
All our drop shipments and express mail priority mail, first class that's what everybody's mailing so it's all coming in from last weeks mailings is getting there," says Tami Currie with the Westwood Branch Post Office in Kalamazoo.

Friday was the deadline to ship by First Class mail, Saturday is the deadline for Priority Mail, Monday for Priority Mail Express.

You can print shipping labels and get more information at the USPS website.
