Unemployment insurance set to run out for over 1 million Americans

WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - More than 1 million Americans currently collecting unemployment insurance payments will lose them Saturday.

The extended unemployment payments enacted during the recession are set to expire, and in Michigan, where the unemployment rate is 9 percent, that means nearly 44,000 people will lose unemployment this weekend.

Another 86,000 people will stop getting checks in the first half of next year.

Tara Mergener tells us if lawmakers in Washington are likely to keep those payments coming.
