Longtime Richland stray dog may soon have a forever home

RICHLAND, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - She's been homeless in Richland for three years, but now it's likely that a former stray dog will soon find a forever home.

Baby Girl is a 3- or 4-year-old pit-bull/terrier mix.

She's been surviving in the Richland area for years on food and water from businesses and homes.

Last weekend, someone spotted her out in the cold in a doorway.

She's now in a foster home, and becoming acclimated to life with people and other animals.

"We are amazed at how smart she is, and how quickly she does learn, and how quickly she's acclimated to living in a home again," said Richland Animal Rescue Director Julie Baker. "She's a very nice dog on the street, and she's a very nice dog in rescue."

Veterinarians say Baby Girl is about 10 pounds underweight, and she's also being checked out for heartworm and lyme disease.

Overall, though, she's in good shape, and she'll be available for adoption soon.
