Target could be facing legal battle in security breach

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Retail giant Target is now in the middle of what could be a pricey legal battle in the wake of the massive security breach.

Customers have filed lawsuits seeking millions of dollars in damages, accusing the giant retailer of not doing enough to secure shoppers' debit and credit card information.

As many as 40 million people who shopped with a credit or debit card at Target stores between November 27 and December 15 may have had their personal information hacked.

Victims of the Target breach won't be held financially responsible for fraudulent charges, but they are being told to keep an eye on their accounts.

The company is offering free credit monitoring services to affected customers.
