DENSE FOG ADVISORY

Effective Until 11 AM

The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids issues a DENSE FOG ADVISORY until 11 AM for nearly every county in West Michigan save for Berrien, Cass, St. Joe, and Branch counties.  Recent, heavy rainfall, and light winds are the perfect combination for fog production.  Visibilities may be as low as 1/4 mile or lower; that's enough to drastically change how you drive.  Please keep it safe this morning and travel slower, if you have to.  Additional stopping distance isn't a bad idea either.  Stay with wwmt.com for the latest weather updates!

Kalamazoo Beer Week begins Saturday

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) Craft beer lovers, listen up!

The fourth annual Kalamazoo Beer Week kicks off Friday night and there is a lot you need to know before tapping in to all the fun.

There are nearly 200 events you can attend over the next nine days.

Every single event focuses on craft beer and its appreciation so it's going to be pretty fun for the craft beer lovers here, says Anne Drummond, organizer of Kalamazoo Beer Week. It could be a tap takeover where the brewers are there to describe all the different beers to the patrons. It could be sampling flights so smaller portions of a number of different beers from the same brewery. Or it could be an event focused on a style of beer, so porters for instance, try eight different porters from around the state of Michigan.

Zazios is one of many venues participating in Kalamazoo Beer Week, hosting three Chefs Table events where chefs and brewers join forces for the week.

We are focusing on beer dinners. I mean, I love craft beer by itself but something awesome happens when you pair craft beer with food, says Autumn Fromm, Zazios events coordinator.  Its food that's prepared directly in front of you course by course. You get to hear the chef talk about the food, the brewer talk about the beer. It's a really unique experience.

Other Kalamazoo Beer Week events include Bowl with a Brewer, screenings of craft beer films, even a brew battle.

Each location designs something that works best for them, Drummond notes. And not everything is a paid event. Many of our retail tastings are complimentary so you can try something new and learn something new about craft beer.

Organizers hope those that participate in Kalamazoo Beer will be safe in how they consume craft beer. They urge anyone planning on drinking alcohol to always have a designated driver.  In addition, on every beer week flyer there's a QR code you can scan with your smart phone that will help you find a taxi home.
