10 AM Until 2 AM Saturday

The National Weather Service maintains a WIND ADVISORY for nearly all of West Michigan from 10 AM this morning until 2 AM Saturday morning.  45 mph gusts are likely inland while 50 mph gusts are possible at the Lake Shore.  This kind of wind is capable of bringing down tree branches and creating some power outages.  Obviously, we hope that doesn't happen.  Winds blow from the northwest this morning then from the north by midday and beyond.  Stay with for your weather today and always!

Heartwell delivers State of the City, announces partnership with GVSU

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Mayor George Heartwell laid out his plans for the city Saturday in his 11th State of the City address.

He covered several topics, from progress at public schools to praise for how the city responded to the flood of 2013.

He also announced a partnership between the city of Grand Rapids and Grand Valley State University. Beginning this fall semester, Grand Valley will offer an accredited course in which 10 GVSU students will research the city's efforts to engage college students.  They will also study what other cities are doing.

Heartwell says the research will be the basis of a plan to help Grand Rapids better serve and connect with recent college students.

It's an effort to keep talented graduates in Grand Rapids.
