Deputies seek help tracking down fake 9-1-1 call suspect

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Sheriff's Deputies are asking for help tracking down a man who's been making fake calls to 9-1-1.

At least three agencies, including Kalamazoo County, Portage Public Safety, and Pavilion Township Fire were called out Thursday morning after a caller claimed he'd been shot and was lying in the street.

But after three calls to dispatch, those claims turned out to be false.

Officials say the prank tied up resources at a time when there were at least three serious weather-related accidents on the road, and right now, there are no leads on the suspect.

The term for the false calls is 'swatting,' and it's a felony.

This morning's caller dialed 9-1-1 for help three times--and the last time after the scene was cleared was threatening to shoot a home.

Now, we're learning that this likely isn't the first time a caller has pulled a stunt like this.

If you think you know who may have done this, or if you have any more information on the crimes, you're asked to call police right away.
