Rival football teams may merge

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Newschannel 3 has learned that longtime rivals Hackett Catholic and K-Christian are discussing the possibility of forming a cooperative football program for at least the next two seasons.

A school official told us the two schools have been struggling with dwindling enrollments and feel that competing with their current low numbers would be unsafe, and that the best alternative is to combine forces to form an independent, neutral football team.

Talks are still in the exploratory stage. A final decision is expected by early February.
