Police arrest man for gun possession, woman for drug possession

GENEVA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) A man is arrested for carrying a gun and a woman is arrested for having marijuana after deputies are called to a domestic assault in Van Buren County.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the 66000 block of Eighth Ave. near County Road 687 in Geneva Township. Deputies were called on a domestic assault of a man and woman from South Haven walking in the roadway. They both denied any domestic assault had occurred and deputies found no evidence of assault.

But, police found the 38-year-old man had a .22-caliber revolver in a small holster on his waistband. Police say the gun was loaded, with one empty shell casing. The man told deputies he had fired the round at his house. He said he was taking the gun to a friend's house to show it to him. Police say he has an extensive criminal history.

Police found that the 36-year-old woman had marijuana.

Both were taken to jail. The man was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, a carrying a concealed weapon violation and being in possession of an unregistered handgun. The woman was jailed on a possession of marijuana charge.
