Grand Rapids carrier hangs up bag after 35 years

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - A Grand Rapids mail carrier is retiring after 36 years with the U.S. Postal Service and nearly 32 of those years walking the same route.
The Grand Rapids Press reports that 60-year-old Marty Keur's route took him on walks of 8 to 10 miles a day, dodging everything from loose dogs to lightning.
He went to work for the postal service on Feb. 10, 1979, after serving six years with the U.S. Navy SEABEES as a heavy equipment operator.
He was credited at least three times over the years with efforts that saved lives. In March, he will begin spending more time with his wife and grandchildren.
