Emergency crews prepare for coming storm

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - With weather expected to get much worse throughout the day Friday, emergency crews are on standby throughout West Michigan.

NewsChannel 3 talked to local first responders to find out how theyre bracing for potentially dangerous driving conditions.

Oshtemo Township Fire Department says they will have 40 firefighters on call Friday.

Firefighters tell NewsChannel 3 they will be working overtime to make sure everyone is safe.

"We're providing some extra staffing, so there will be extra guys here at the firehouse throughout the weekend to handle the inclement weather, says Jed Wild of Oshtemo Township Fire Department. So when the trucks roll out, there's not just one guy, but several guys that can handle the emergency.

If you do need to hit the roads, make sure to take it slow and be on the look-out for other cars that may be sliding on the roadways.

First responders also wanted us to pass along this message: if you do get into an accident, stay in your car. Do not walk around outside.
