Construction crews still removing damaged portions of Fifth-Third Ballpark after fire

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - It's been one week since a fire ripped through Fifth-Third Ballpark in Comstock Park, leaving significant damage behind.

Construction crews are still removing the damaged portions of the building.

Investigators say a rubber trash cart was accidentally pushed too closely to a space heater in one of the luxury suites, sparking the fire last Friday.

Investigators say the stadium's sprinkler system wasn't in working order because a breaker had tripped, causing the system to lose pressure.

The Whitecaps promise the ballpark will be ready for baseball in the spring.
