Former First Lady Barbara Bush hospitalized

HOUSTON, Texas (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Former First Lady Barbara Bush remains in a Houston hospital Thursday morning for a "respiratory-related issue."

But those close to her say her spirits remain high.

"Well, Barbara Bush is a tough old gal who will outlive us all, but our love is with her because she's not just the former First Lady of America, she's the first lady of our hearts. We know that she'll pull through and it will be a happy new year for everybody," said Chase Untermeyer.

Meantime, President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama sent wishes for a speedy recovery to Bush.

In a statement, the Obama's said they hope she feels better soon and added that their thoughts and prayers are with her family.

Bush is 88-years old.
