Former councilwoman sentenced

KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The former Portage City Councilwoman who admitted to stealing tens of thousands of dollars from a local rotary club learned her sentence Tuesday morning.
Elizabeth Campbell was sentenced to two years of probation. She will also have to pay back $15,000.
NewsChannel 3's I-Team first broke the story back in October when we learned nearly $40,000 had disappeared from the Portage Rotary Club and Campbell was being investigated.
She was Rotary Club President during the time frame the money went missing, from 2010 to 2012.
According to M-Live, Campbell had racked up nearly $50,000 in credit card debt and used the stolen money to pay her bills.

Campbell pleaded guilty to the felony embezzlement charge in November.
She also stepped down from her position on Portage City Council.

Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Getting told NewsChannel 3, The Rotary Club has been made whole. They've been paid back the 40-thousand dollars that was taken - 25 by Campbell, 15 by the insurance company. As part of the sentencing, we will be asking Campbell to pay back the insurance company as well."
