W.K. Kellogg Foundation donating money to save art in Detroit

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The W.K. Kellogg Foundation is giving $40-million to prevent the sale of Detroit art and help city retirees.

That brings the total money raised so far, to save both, to $370-million.

The group says it wants to continue to attract financial support from foundations and individuals.

In the meantime, Governor Rick Snyder is trying to win approval for $350 million from the state.

The city-owned art at the Detroit Institute of Arts could be vulnerable in Detroit's bankruptcy.

At the same time, Detroit's pension funds are short by $3.5 billion.
