Crashes back up traffic on US-131 in Allegan Co.

ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - US-131 is backed up in several locations by crashes at noon Wednesday.

M-DOT says the southbound lanes are closed at 142nd Ave (exit 68) because of a crash.

The Allegan County Sheriff says that a jack-knifed semi may lead to the southbound lanes being closed at 100th Street (exit 72) too.

Motorists are asked by the sheriff to turn on their headlights and refrain from using private vehicles with tow straps to remove vehicles that have gone off the road.

The sheriff says that conditions on the west side of the county are not much better. 58th St. between 136th Ave. and 139th Ave. will be closed to allow the road commission an opportunity to remove snow.

Sheriff Baker says that the problem is not new snow, but the existing snow being blown around which is creating drifts and whiteout conditions.
