One pedestrian dies, one in critical condition after being hit by drunk driver

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) A woman is dead and a man is in critical condition after they are hit while walking in the road. Police say they were hit by a drunk driver.

Police say it happened at 11:30 p.m. Saturday on Columbia Ave. near Riverside Drive.

They say a say a 57-year-old woman from Ceresco was eastbound on Columbia and hit the pedestrians. They say snow on the sidewalks caused them to walk in the road.

A 22-year-old woman was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. A 24-year-old man was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Police say alcohol appears to be a factor. The driver of the vehicle was arrested for operating while intoxicating, causing death.
