New legislation looks at social media accounts after user's death

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Just about everyone has an email address or a profile on a social media page.

But what happens to those accounts when we pass away?

On Wednesday, state lawmakers introduced legislation to clear up the confusion.

Under the bills, Internet accounts would be considered a person's assets, meaning family members would have access to them when a person dies.

The goal of the legislation is to make it easier for families to delete a person's Facebook page or emails when a loved one passes away.
