Portage police arrest suspect in string of armed robberies

PORTAGE, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Portage police have arrested a 29-year-old man who they believe is connected to at least two, possibly three armed robberies.

The first robbery happened at the Woodbridge Hardings store on West Centre Ave. earlier this week.

Portage police say the man went right to the counter inside the store, flashed a knife, and took off with cash.

The second robbery happened Thursday night at around 8:00 at the Jo-Ann Fabrics on Westnedge Avenue.

Police say the same suspect flashed a gun and took off with cash.

The suspect may also be responsible for a robbery at a Shell station on West Main in Kalamazoo.

The suspect is not being identified at this time, and charges are pending.
