Pole barn full of homemade fireworks burns in Calhoun Co.

FREDONIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Explosions could be felt for miles, after a pole barn full of home made fireworks, goes up in flames.

Firefighters arrived on scene, with those fireworks shooting in every direction. It took several hours for firefighters to clear the scene. This happened in the heavily populated area that sits near Long Lake.

The explosions could be felt up to four miles away. Not even firefighters knew what they were getting themselves into.

Until they got a bit closer and could see fireworks shooting up to 60 feet into the air. A neighbor tells Newchannel 3 when he stepped outside he could feel the sheer force from the powerful explosion, that tore metal right off the pole barn, right after that he says flames were shooting into the air.

A Shell Gas Station about two miles away had some of its merchandise fall off the shelves.

The township supervisor says this was a big wake up call, and if charges aren't brought against the owner, the issue will be brought up in their next township meeting on Monday.

The county sheriff says they're still investigating.

No one was injured.

The cause remains under investigation.
